I’m feeling pretty boring so I’ll be offline for a while.

‘appy Monday!

February 12, 2007 · 4 Comments

The toughest thing about that ACE exam was that I wan’t prepared and we all know who’s fault that is. While it’s true that studying the manual, study guide and practice test were helpful, it wasn’t enough. I wonder if having the live classroom experience would have better prepared me. (YES!) I know further study and experience is in my future because I really enjoy the subject and it dovetails with what I already do. ACE offers a workshop that I will attend when it’s offered in my area again, hopefully soon.

OK! About running.

Sunday’s long run was 9 miles at 10min pace over easy rolling roads. My legs were tired and achey while I was running. They were fine after the run, and today were not sore, just a little stiff. I’m thinking it’s a conditioning issue. It’s time to bump the strength training and start including plyometrics, like skips, grapevines, butt kicks, etc. in the easy runs. Did anyone read the articles on knees in the latest Runners World? Those are good functional exercises to consider, not only for protecting your knees, but to provide overall strength/balance training/timing and co-ordination work for anyone who runs.

This afternoon Dianne and I ran for an hour together on the trails behind the Y. She had run this morning on the treadmill too, so that brought her milage for the day to eleven. GO DIANNE!  Since we got back, she’s been hobbling around here and groaning when she gets up from the computer. I think it’s cute no matter what she says. It was a rainy morning and overcast all day untill we got out and started running this afternoon. The sun came out and the stream next the trail was full and could be heard even when jets in the landing pattern at DFW were overhead. I hope all of you guys had a great Monday too.

Happy running!

ACE?

February 10, 2007 · 3 Comments

Early run this morning. 4 miles with grapevines and skips, which doesn’t sound athletic at all does it.

I took the ACE personal trainer exam today. I don’t feel hopeful about passing it and I have to wait 4-6 weeks before I’ll find out. The test consisted of 150 multiple choice questions and then some, half of which should have been answered, “who f*!king cares!”. I wish that training manual didn’t put me to sleep.

Goal!

February 6, 2007 · 6 Comments

1:36:52 for 9.5 miles today. Not bad I think. And I have a goal race. The Grasslands Trail Run half marathon on March 24. Running that distance on trails will be a first and some of the people from RAW will be running it too. Susan was asking me about a half in May called “Heels and Hills”. If she and the Mighty Mighty Power Lifting Women (that isn’t the Dynamic Duo is it? Don’t they have tights and capes?) are going to run that race, I don’t see how I could past up the opportuninty. I hope the shirt is in a neutral color. Well, if it isn’t, what won’t go with black?

Those jokes came from the Prairie Home Companion. Last weekend was the annual joke show.

Here’s one:

Me: I’m having a problem with my computer. When I type in my password, all it shows are those little stars.

My son: Right. Little asterisks. That’s for your protection. So if someone were standing behind you, they couldn’t see what your password is.

Me: Okay, but they show up even when nobody is standing behind me.

Happy Running!

I need a goal

February 3, 2007 · 6 Comments

One of my clients told me today that this is the forth coldest January on record in Texas. This morning it was 26 out when I got 5 miles in. It was great but my face got a little chilly. If it were this cold more than once or twice a year I would buy gear( ahh, shopping for gear)  but I’m very content to just imagine what it must be like to live, and run, someplace that has winter.

Currently I don’t have a goal race to train for. Must have that. I joined a running club last June, but my work schedule has been such that I don’t run with them.

I’m going to adjust my schedule.

I can do that.

I can make a group run on the weekend.

It’s getting kind of old running alone.

And I could take my table, too. Hmmmm.

Happy Running

and Have Dessert. It’s OK.

A joke:

A guy goes to the doctor and the doctor says, “You have Tom Jones disease.”

The man asked, “Is that normal?”

The doctor said, “Its not unusual.”

Again?

Three skunks came to church.

The pastor made them sit in their own phew.

Winter, in Texas

February 2, 2007 · 5 Comments

There was a bit of wet snow on the ground this morning that fell sometime after midnight. My run this morning was on the treadmill at the Y. Only 2.8 miles but I played around with the incline to make it a short, hill, sprint-like workout.

It seems like February is the month for Texas to get snow/winter if we’re going to.

Here’s what it looked like around my house this morning.

 Happy Running.
