So…

hello one and all.

in my house there is a story about a nephew who was waiting for a table in a restaurant with his parents and he was whining. ” i’m bored”, was his monotonous complaint. after many minutes of this, a complete stranger, also waiting to be seated, leaned in and said to him,”no honey, you’re bor-ring.” at my house, this is the way we express, often with a whine for emphasis, which allows others within earshot to roll their eyes,  that we feel stale, that we are needing to hit the refresh button as it were. we say “i’m boring”.

i’ve been running. this week, if all goes according to plan, will be a 40+ mile week. i still work with a coach, which means i still have the plan the coach wrote and i sort of stick to it, mostly. the plan is for around 30 miles a week (5 running days) with the long runs being about 2 hours (10-12 miles). the quality work is done two days a week and consisits of lactate threshold type stuff, i.e. 10 warm up, 5-8min @ 10k pace x4 with min. 3-5 intervals of long run pace recovery, then 10min cool down. so as to not do this hard stuff alone, i’ve been going to the running shoe store and doing the speed work class and/or doing the store’s social run with them, which is at a pace that is speed work for me. they run and talk, i run and gasp.  it is fun however, and i work on almost everyone on staff at the store, so seeing me speak in one and two word phrases between raspy gasps tempers any aire of senior massage dieity.

bw and i went to the body worlds exhibit at the dallas muesum of science two weeks ago. words fail me when i try to answer the question,”how was it?”. i was deeply affected by it and to say that it was life changing is not an over-statement. there was never a moment when i thought about what i was seeing as former human beings.  the way the specimens are presented is so interesting that that thought was never formed. i urge all of you, if you have the chance, to go see what a real IT band looks like, and how big sciatic nerves are, and how astoundingly big the blood vessels are coming off your heart, and what healthy and not healthy lungs look like, and…and…and… i have a new appreciation of “fearfully and wonderfully made”.

on a lighter note, check out this cartoon. go to this site, disease mongers, and make up your own disease and the cure for it and make millions of dollars.

happy running!
